I'm so glad it stopped raining in enough time for me to walk to class today! It was so cold and wet outside this morning that it was hard to do anything productive. I feel so lazy on rainy days but it's just so comfy to lay in bed all nice and toasty!
Happy Halloween :0) I wish that I could still go trick or treating.. on the other hand it's pretty rainy and cold outside so I'll just snuggle up in my bed with some candy instead!!

Mmmm what lovely weather outside today! I hope it stays like this for a long time. I'm not ready for it to snow outside yet :/ We have to get together on Friday and do our podcast! Let's make sure we find out when the open lab time is this week haha!

Colder Weather

I must say that I really do not mind that the weather is getting colder. I like the fact that I can wear sweatshirts and boots and gloves and just be comfy all the time. It does mean that my house will be freezing and I am going to have to turn the heat on, which means more money for the electric bill. I guess it would be a good time to buy an electric blanket! :)
Burrr...when did it get so cold outside!!?? It will be snowing before we know it. Wish I was in Hawaii ;)
Today in class let's work on our podcast scripts so we can finally put it together, it's due on the 28th. How is it already the 6th week of school? It is going soo fast, but I'm not really complaining!

Revised Weather Concept Map

Ideas for Script

We should start off by explaining how this unit will be designed around project based learning. We can define project based learning for the parents and describe what that children will be doing throughout the unit. (The students will be the ones who are doing most of the research online for what they are interested in regarding weather, etc.)

We should definitely say something about the pen pals that our students are collaborating with in Sydney, Australia. This is an interesting concept for both students and parents. We should explain that we are comparing and contrasting with weather from around the world and in our city.

Happy Monday

Hey Kayla,
Let's get together sometime before Friday and make sure that we're both on the right track with our lesson plans! I need to look at it again, but I just make to make sure that I'm doing the right kinds of things in the right areas :) And we have to write a script for our podcast!

Take a look at the concept map that I posted to the blog last week. I changed a few things around, but we need a revised copy to turn in soon. Let's see if there are things that we should change. I have it saved on my flash drive so just let me know and I will resubmit it online!

What I Plan to Research

I want to have my students research natural disasters. I would give them a list of natural disasters to choose from and they would find three other people to be in the group with them. I would like them to research individually and then come together as a group to create their final project and share their information.

For the final project I would want them to create a PSA for the natural disaster that they researched. They would talk about how to prepare, what the natural disaster is and what it does, the effects of the natural disaster and who to contact if a natural disaster occurs.Students could choose whether or not to make a movie or to act it out in front of the class.

Across the curriculum

That's a good idea Kayla! I like it. We could even incorporate our weather unit into language arts and have the students write a poem or journal entry about what they like to do on rainy days.
